O per\u00edodo escolhido para a an\u00e1lise foi o Plioceno M\u00e9dio, h\u00e1 3,3 milh\u00f5es de anos. Naquela \u00e9poca, os continentes ocupavam praticamente a posi\u00e7\u00e3o em que se encontram hoje e a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de gases que causam o aquecimento da atmosfera era semelhante \u00e0 atual. A temperatura dessas regi\u00f5es afeta a posi\u00e7\u00e3o da chamada Zona de Converg\u00eancia Intertropical (ZCIT), uma faixa da atmosfera carregada de umidade que afeta o regime de chuvas e secas em diferentes continentes. Hoje, a temperatura m\u00e9dia da atmosfera e dos oceanos est\u00e1 cerca de 1,1 \u00b0C mais quente do que no in\u00edcio da Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Industrial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A diferen\u00e7a de temperatura entre os hemisf\u00e9rios fez a ZCIT se mover para o Norte, alterando o regime de ventos do hemisf\u00e9rio Sul, conta a meteorologista Luciana Prado, pesquisadora do Instituto Oceanogr\u00e1fico (IO) da USP, que n\u00e3o participou do estudo. A Terra seria um lugar muito mais in\u00f3spito\u201d, diz o ocean\u00f3grafo Marcos Tonelli, pesquisador do Instituto de Estudos do Mar Almirante Paulo Moreira (IEAPM), no Rio de Janeiro, que tamb\u00e9m n\u00e3o participou do estudo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Embora o Enos tenha potencialmente sido menos intenso no passado distante, quando as condi\u00e7\u00f5es dos oceanos eram parecidas com as esperadas para o final deste s\u00e9culo, \u00e9 pouco prov\u00e1vel que a intensidade do fen\u00f4meno volte a diminuir nas pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas. A raz\u00e3o, segundo Pontes e Prado, \u00e9 que a velocidade com que o CO<sub>2<\/sub>, um g\u00e1s de efeito estufa, se acumula na atmosfera \u00e9 bem diferente nos dias atuais.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/a\/ad\/Nino.gif\" alt=\"File:Nino.gif - Wikimedia Commons\" width=\"308\" height=\"133\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cO n\u00edvel desse g\u00e1s na atmosfera variou naturalmente ao longo de toda a hist\u00f3ria da Terra por diversos fatores naturais, mas essas varia\u00e7\u00f5es ocorreram muito mais lentamente do que hoje\u201d, afirma Prado, do IO. \u201cDe meados do s\u00e9culo XIX para c\u00e1, em consequ\u00eancia das atividades humanas, houve um aumento muito mais r\u00e1pido do que o observado nos 66 milh\u00f5es de anos anteriores\u201d, completa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Entendimento de climas passados<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/c.tenor.com\/JAbWcwcLR5MAAAAC\/storm-raging.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Storm Raging GIF - Storm Raging Sea - Discover &amp; Share GIFs\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A diferen\u00e7a da origem e da velocidade de ac\u00famulo desse e de outros gases de efeito estufa muda a forma como o planeta se aquece e, por consequ\u00eancia, como responde ao aumento de temperatura. Por essa raz\u00e3o, n\u00e3o \u00e9 poss\u00edvel concluir que o Enos e os epis\u00f3dios de El Ni\u00f1o e La Ni\u00f1a ser\u00e3o menos intensos at\u00e9 o final deste s\u00e9culo, como ocorreu naquele passado distante.
