Por meio de an\u00e1lises da hist\u00f3ria da ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o de terras no norte da Amaz\u00f4nia, pesquisadores das universidades de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) e de Queensland, na Austr\u00e1lia, conclu\u00edram que a perda de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa decorrente da constru\u00e7\u00e3o de estradas associadas \u00e0s minas pode ser de 40 a 60 vezes maior que o causado pelas pr\u00f3prias minas.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/incendios-no-pantanal-e-o-desmatamento-na-amazonia\/\">Inc\u00eandios no Pantanal e o desmatamento na Amaz\u00f4nia<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/perdemos-parte-de-nossos-mangues\/\">Perdemos parte de nossos mangues<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A avalia\u00e7\u00e3o dos impactos ambientais provocados pela minera\u00e7\u00e3o, portanto, deveria ser ampliada e incluir a an\u00e1lise de danos resultantes da infraestrutura necess\u00e1ria para seu funcionamento.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cOs impactos indiretos, que se acumulam no tempo, n\u00e3o costumam ser avaliados nos licenciamentos e nos processos de abertura de novas minas\u201d<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 12pt;\">, observa a engenheira ambiental Juliana Siqueira-Gay, gerente de projetos do Instituto Escolhas e autora principal do estudo com esses resultados publicado em julho na revista cient\u00edfica\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 12pt;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41893-022-00921-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Nature Sustainability<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cA abertura de novas estradas para atender as minas na Amaz\u00f4nia pode ainda favorecer o avan\u00e7o ilegal do garimpo, da extra\u00e7\u00e3o de madeira e da grilagem, al\u00e9m de urbaniza\u00e7\u00e3o descontrolada.\u201d Ela percorreu a regi\u00e3o da Renca em 2019 como parte de seu doutorado, conclu\u00eddo em julho de 2021 na Escola Polit\u00e9cnica da USP.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Na Amaz\u00f4nia, estradas associadas \u00e0 minera\u00e7\u00e3o causam grandes danos ambientais<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A regi\u00e3o sofre press\u00f5es para que seja aberta para a minera\u00e7\u00e3o. Um deles prev\u00ea a explora\u00e7\u00e3o de 170 dep\u00f3sitos minerais em unidades de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o de uso sustent\u00e1vel, que implicaria uma perda de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa de 131 km\u00b2; as estradas entre elas causariam um desmatamento de 5.900 km\u00b2. Em outro cen\u00e1rio, haveria 4.254 km\u00b2 de desmatamento indireto, 60 vezes mais que o direto, com a libera\u00e7\u00e3o da minera\u00e7\u00e3o em consequ\u00eancia da explora\u00e7\u00e3o de apenas oito dep\u00f3sitos minerais das terras ind\u00edgenas da regi\u00e3o da Renca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ao ser aberta no meio da floresta, uma estrada cria v\u00e1rios problemas. E essas novas estradas abrem novas frentes de desmatamento, al\u00e9m do alcance das estradas planejadas\u201d, observa. Um estudo de que ele participou, publicado em julho na revista\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2072-4292\/14\/15\/3625\/htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Remote Sensing<\/em><\/a>, identificou 3 milh\u00f5es de quil\u00f4metros de estradas n\u00e3o oficiais, de um total de 3,46 milh\u00f5es que cortavam 40% das \u00e1reas com vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa na Amaz\u00f4nia Legal em 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Os pesquisadores da USP consideram importante a elabora\u00e7\u00e3o de um planejamento que leve em conta os efeitos regionais \u2013 e n\u00e3o apenas locais \u2013 da minera\u00e7\u00e3o e valorize \u00e1reas de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o nativa que ser\u00e3o permanentemente protegidas, sem possibilidade de flexibiliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cA avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de impactos regionais j\u00e1 vem sendo discutida no setor de minera\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d, afirma a gerente de sustentabilidade do Instituto Brasileiro de Minera\u00e7\u00e3o (Ibram), Cl\u00e1udia Salles.
