Atrav\u00e9s de tecnologias cada vez mais refinadas, cientistas v\u00eam recuperando fragmentos de DNA de esp\u00e9cies extintas h\u00e1 centenas, milhares e, em casos surpreendentes, at\u00e9 milh\u00f5es de anos. Extra\u00eddo de ossos, dentes, cascos congelados ou fragmentos de tecido mumificado, esse material \u00e9 quase sempre degradado. No entanto, avan\u00e7os em sequenciamento de nova gera\u00e7\u00e3o (NGS) tornaram poss\u00edvel decodificar mesmo fragmentos m\u00ednimos e contaminados, reconstruindo genomas com uma precis\u00e3o antes inimagin\u00e1vel (P\u00e4\u00e4bo et al., 2004).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7399b0aedb6d59c6e760695a430b9f4f\">Ainda assim, apesar do fasc\u00ednio da ideia de trazer esp\u00e9cies extintas de volta \u00e0 vida, a ressurrei\u00e7\u00e3o de um organismo extinto permanece, na pr\u00e1tica, imposs\u00edvel com a tecnologia atual. Mesmo com avan\u00e7os not\u00e1veis na edi\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica, recriar um ser vivo a partir de fragmentos de DNA antigos \u00e9 extremamente limitado. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-e227f4e5d6c829a1beed65ae3da4d13a\">Al\u00e9m disso, os aspectos <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/epigenetica\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">epigen\u00e9ticos<\/span><\/a>, comportamentais e ecol\u00f3gicos \u2014 fundamentais para a sobreviv\u00eancia e identidade de qualquer organismo \u2014 s\u00e3o irrecuper\u00e1veis. A esp\u00e9cie, portanto, pode ser parcialmente imitada, mas jamais plenamente restaurada. O que se obt\u00e9m, no m\u00e1ximo, \u00e9 um h\u00edbrido gen\u00e9tico aproximado, distante do original em sua complexidade biol\u00f3gica e hist\u00f3rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: courier new,courier,monospace; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Reconstruindo a gen\u00e9tica de esp\u00e9cies desaparecidas<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-20d23c321b175836e068fdf74aea02e3\">Um dos casos mais emblem\u00e1ticos desse campo foi o <a href=\"https:\/\/colossal.com\/mammoth\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sequenciamento do <strong>genoma do mamute-lanoso<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (<em>Mammuthus primigenius<\/em>). Encontrados em regi\u00f5es do \u00c1rtico, os restos congelados dessa megafauna permitiram a recupera\u00e7\u00e3o de quase todo seu material gen\u00e9tico. Gra\u00e7as aos trabalhos pioneiros de Svante P\u00e4\u00e4bo e sua equipe, foi poss\u00edvel identificar segmentos do DNA neandertal presentes nos humanos modernos, especialmente em popula\u00e7\u00f5es da Europa e da \u00c1sia. Assim, descobriu-se que o legado gen\u00e9tico da extin\u00e7\u00e3o nem sempre representa desaparecimento completo \u2014 mas sim transforma\u00e7\u00e3o (Green et al., 2010).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow has-background\" style=\"border-radius:82px;background-image:url(&apos;https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/evolucao-convergente-dentes.jpg&apos;);background-position:45% 42%;background-size:cover;\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-eea5792884c92a1ac574915a75e152b2\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:700\">\u201c<strong>O DNA antigo transformou nossa compreens\u00e3o da evolu\u00e7\u00e3o, revelando hist\u00f3rias escritas em mol\u00e9culas muito depois de os ossos terem se transformado em p\u00f3<\/strong>.\u201d \u2014 <strong>Svante P\u00e4\u00e4bo<\/strong>, Pr\u00eamio Nobel de Medicina (2022) e pioneiro da paleogen\u00e9tica<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: courier new,courier,monospace; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Arqueogen\u00e9tica: desvendando o passado pela heran\u00e7a molecular<\/span><\/strong><\/span> <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9cc0129bb0a8616f55770b9e018d2011\">Por outro lado, nem todos os projetos visam apenas o conhecimento evolutivo. A chamada \u201cdesextin\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d tornou-se um tema pol\u00eamico e fascinante. Pesquisadores da \u00e1rea de <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/biologia-sintetica-a-engenharia-da-vida\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">biologia sint\u00e9tica<\/span><\/a> tentam, por exemplo, recriar genes extintos e inseri-los em esp\u00e9cies vivas aparentadas. Essa estrat\u00e9gia j\u00e1 est\u00e1 em curso com o <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/o-lobo-da-tasmania\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">tilacino<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (<em>Thylacinus cynocephalus<\/em>), tamb\u00e9m conhecido como <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/o-lobo-da-tasmania\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">tigre-da-tasm\u00e2nia<\/span><\/a>, extinto na d\u00e9cada de 1930. A meta n\u00e3o \u00e9 apenas reviver um animal extinto, mas criar um h\u00edbrido adaptado ao frio que possa repovoar as tundras e ajudar a combater o derretimento do permafrost \u2014 uma proposta controversa, mas ambientalmente vision\u00e1ria (Church &amp; Regis, 2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-24a8d6eb8564560f8795880fc824395a\">Do ponto de vista t\u00e9cnico, essas tentativas enfrentam in\u00fameros obst\u00e1culos. A degrada\u00e7\u00e3o do DNA, a dificuldade de encontrar esp\u00e9cies hospedeiras compat\u00edveis e os limites \u00e9ticos da manipula\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica imp\u00f5em desafios cont\u00ednuos. Al\u00e9m disso, h\u00e1 o risco de produzir organismos invi\u00e1veis ou com sofrimento biol\u00f3gico, o que exige um cuidado rigoroso em cada etapa experimental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-4014eff948b5124884896242def4e233\">Mesmo assim, as possibilidades oferecidas por esse campo s\u00e3o vastas.
