O termo &#8220;alelo&#8221; tal como Mendel o utilizou, expressa a ideia de &#8220;gene&#8221;, enquanto que nos nossos dias ele \u00e9 utilizado para especificar uma variante de um gene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/genetica-populacional\/\">Gen\u00e9tica populacional<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">S\u00f3 depois da morte de <a href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/documentario-mendel-e-a-ervilha\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mendel<\/span><\/a> \u00e9 que o seu trabalho foi redescoberto, entendido e lhe foi dado o devido valor por cientistas que ent\u00e3o trabalhavam em problemas similares.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">A\u00a0redescoberta de Mendel<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">O ano de 1900 marcou a &#8220;redescoberta de Mendel&#8221; por Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns e Erich von Tschermak, e em 1915 os princ\u00edpios b\u00e1sicos da gen\u00e9tica mendeliana\u00a0foram\u00a0aplicados a uma grande variedade de organismos, mais notavelmente a mosca\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/drosofila\/\"><em>Drosophila melanogaster<\/em><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Liderado por Thomas Hunt Morgan e seus colegas, os geneticistas desenvolveram o modelo mendeliano, que foi amplamente aceito. Juntamente com o trabalho experimental, matem\u00e1ticos desenvolveram o quadro estat\u00edstico da gen\u00e9tica de popula\u00e7\u00f5es, trazendo explica\u00e7\u00f5es gen\u00e9ticas para o estudo da <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/evolucao\/\">evolu\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mendel n\u00e3o tinha conhecimento da natureza f\u00edsica dos genes. O trabalho de Watson e Crick em 1953 mostrou que a base f\u00edsica da informa\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica eram os \u00e1cidos nucleicos, especificamente o DNA,\u00a0embora alguns v\u00edrus possuam genomas de RNA. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A descoberta da estrutura do DNA, no entanto, n\u00e3o trouxe imediatamente o conhecimento de como as milhares de prote\u00ednas de um organismo estariam &#8220;codificadas&#8221; nas sequ\u00eancias de nucleot\u00eddeos do DNA. Esta descoberta cr\u00edtica para o surgimento da moderna <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/biologia-molecular\/\">Biologia Molecular<\/a><\/span> s\u00f3 foi alcan\u00e7ada no come\u00e7o da d\u00e9cada de 1960 por Marshall Nirenberg, que viria a receber o Nobel\u00a0em 1968, assim como <a href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/documentario-a-descoberta-do-dna\/\">Watson e Crick<\/a> cinco anos antes. O fracasso desses pesquisadores explica-se pelo seguinte: eles tentavam entender a heran\u00e7a em bloco, isto \u00e9, considerando todas as caracter\u00edsticas do indiv\u00edduo ao mesmo tempo; n\u00e3o estudavam uma caracter\u00edstica de cada vez, como fez Mendel. Somente quando se compreendia o mecanismo de transmiss\u00e3o de certa caracter\u00edstica \u00e9 que Mendel se dedicava a outra, verificando se as regras valiam tamb\u00e9m nesse caso.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">O sucesso de Mendel deveu-se tamb\u00e9m a algumas particularidades do m\u00e9todo usava: a escolha do material, a escolha de caracter\u00edsticas constantes e o tratamento dos resultados. Al\u00e9m de ele ter escolhido ervilhas para efetuar seus experimentos, esp\u00e9cie que possui ciclo de vida curto, flores hermafroditas o que permite a autofecunda\u00e7\u00e3o, caracter\u00edsticas variadas e o m\u00e9todo empregado na organiza\u00e7\u00e3o das experimenta\u00e7\u00f5es eram associados \u00e0 aplica\u00e7\u00e3o da estat\u00edstica, estimando matematicamente os resultados obtidos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Uma s\u00e9rie de avan\u00e7os\u00a0levaram a\u00a0descoberta, d\u00e9cadas mais tarde, do que o material gen\u00e9tico \u00e9 composto\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0ADN (\u00e1cido desoxirribonucleico).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/genetica-molecular\/\">Gen\u00e9tica molecular<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/as-maiores-descobertas-da-historia-genetica\/\">As Maiores Descobertas da Hist\u00f3ria Gen\u00e9tica<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Hist\u00f3ria da Gen\u00e9tica:<\/span> Era p\u00f3s Mendel<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Em 1910, Thomas Hunt Morgan mostrou que os genes residem em cromossomos espec\u00edficos. Watson e Francis Crick demonstraram como era formada a estrutura molecular do DNA.
