Ele tinha grande interesse pela <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/botanica\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">bot\u00e2nica<\/span><\/a> e pela matem\u00e1tica, \u00e1reas que combinaria de forma in\u00e9dita. Esse encontro entre n\u00fameros e plantas seria a base de uma revolu\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica. Hoje, contudo, seu legado \u00e9 universalmente reconhecido. Ele, de forma inteligente, escolheu a esp\u00e9cie por apresentar caracter\u00edsticas facilmente identific\u00e1veis, como cor e forma das sementes, al\u00e9m de um ciclo de vida relativamente curto. Assim, p\u00f4de acompanhar v\u00e1rias gera\u00e7\u00f5es em poucos anos, o que facilitou a an\u00e1lise dos padr\u00f5es de heran\u00e7a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7898a5b30570a7c6c25f06affebfee98 has-background\" style=\"border-radius:100px;background-image:url(&apos;https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Richard-Dawkins-2.jpg&apos;);background-size:cover;\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cMendel foi um gigante silencioso, cujas ideias transformaram nossa compreens\u00e3o da vida.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><cite><strong>Richard Dawkins<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-86aefb42fc2fba390b6c80e74c6129b9\">Mendel cruzou plantas com caracter\u00edsticas distintas e registrou cuidadosamente os resultados. Observou que certas caracter\u00edsticas desapareciam em uma gera\u00e7\u00e3o, mas reapareciam na seguinte. Com base nesses dados, formulou o que chamamos hoje de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/primeira-lei-de-mendel\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Primeira Lei de Mendel<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, ou Lei da Segrega\u00e7\u00e3o, segundo a qual os fatores heredit\u00e1rios \u2014 mais tarde chamados genes \u2014 se separam durante a forma\u00e7\u00e3o dos gametas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-f492f07a5bedd4d46c2b89577387860c\">Posteriormente, enunciou a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/2a-lei-de-mendel\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Segunda Lei de Mendel<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, ou Lei da Distribui\u00e7\u00e3o Independente, que descreve como diferentes caracter\u00edsticas s\u00e3o herdadas de forma independente, desde que n\u00e3o estejam ligadas no mesmo cromossomo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-radius:100px\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-eebaeae3dd0343c1396c00f2b04466e4\"><strong>\u201cA simplicidade dos experimentos de Mendel esconde uma genialidade que moldou toda a biologia.\u201d<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>Barbara McClintock<\/strong>, vencedora do pr\u00eamio&nbsp;Nobel de Fisiologia\/Medicina&nbsp;de 1983&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7fee32f4e4df5040acb65b428d3653be\">\u00c9 importante destacar que, embora suas observa\u00e7\u00f5es fossem claras, Mendel n\u00e3o conhecia a exist\u00eancia do <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/a-dupla-helice\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DNA<\/span><\/a>. O conceito de gene, cromossomo e mol\u00e9cula heredit\u00e1ria s\u00f3 viria d\u00e9cadas mais tarde. Mesmo assim, seu m\u00e9todo combinava experimenta\u00e7\u00e3o controlada, uso de grandes amostras e an\u00e1lise estat\u00edstica. Essa abordagem cient\u00edfica diferenciada foi fundamental para a solidez de suas conclus\u00f5es.
