Alguns utilizam pulm\u00f5es primitivos, outros adaptaram br\u00e2nquias modificadas ou at\u00e9 mesmo superf\u00edcies cut\u00e2neas vascularizadas (Graham, 1997). Assim, representam um dos exemplos mais impressionantes da plasticidade biol\u00f3gica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-radius:100px\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\u201cA passagem do ambiente aqu\u00e1tico para o terrestre n\u00e3o ocorreu de forma abrupta, mas por meio de organismos intermedi\u00e1rios, capazes de respirar tanto \u00e1gua quanto ar.\u201d<\/strong> (<strong>Clack<\/strong>, <em>Gaining Ground<\/em>, 2012)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><strong style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: &quot;courier new&quot;, courier, monospace; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold;\">Estrat\u00e9gias respirat\u00f3rias e adapta\u00e7\u00f5es<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-92a9b913c9f7c70206a2f42faf997ae2\">Embora a respira\u00e7\u00e3o aqu\u00e1tica continue predominante, diversas esp\u00e9cies desenvolveram estruturas complementares que lhes permitem extrair oxig\u00eanio do ar. Os dipnoicos, conhecidos como peixes pulmonados, talvez sejam os exemplos mais emblem\u00e1ticos. Eles possuem pulm\u00f5es verdadeiros, hom\u00f3logos aos de anf\u00edbios e mam\u00edferos, e realizam movimentos de degluti\u00e7\u00e3o de ar para manter sua oxigena\u00e7\u00e3o (Nelson et al., 2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-fb36d3c9ff96d94b895fa312d0a494a6\">Por outro lado, esp\u00e9cies como os anabant\u00eddeos \u2014 grupo que inclui o peixe-beta e o gourami \u2014 desenvolveram o chamado \u00f3rg\u00e3o labirinto, uma estrutura derivada do epit\u00e9lio far\u00edngeo que possibilita a capta\u00e7\u00e3o direta de oxig\u00eanio atmosf\u00e9rico (Kramer, 1983). Al\u00e9m deles, alguns bagres e enguias exibem respira\u00e7\u00e3o cut\u00e2nea significativa, absorvendo oxig\u00eanio pela pele, especialmente quando se locomovem fora d\u2019\u00e1gua (Sayer, 2005).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7a67e4280c9bcef3edf1906a66e5b6ff\">Outro caso fascinante \u00e9 o dos <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/manguezais-reservatorios-de-carbono\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">manguezais<\/span><\/a>, onde esp\u00e9cies como o peixe-borboleta-da-lama (<em>Periophthalmus <\/em>spp.) caminham sobre o lodo e respiram ar com ajuda de cavidades bucais mantidas \u00famidas. J\u00e1 o peixe-borboleta-da-lama (<em>Periophthalmus <\/em>sp.) explora a borda dos manguezais, ca\u00e7ando insetos e crust\u00e1ceos fora d\u2019\u00e1gua, em um comportamento que sugere uma antecipa\u00e7\u00e3o evolutiva ao estilo de vida anf\u00edbio (Gibb &amp; Ashley-Ross, 2006).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-8fa41b1066e01c3bf5b03d1d71d0bf20\">Al\u00e9m disso, esp\u00e9cies com respira\u00e7\u00e3o a\u00e9rea exibem toler\u00e2ncia not\u00e1vel a ambientes com baixos n\u00edveis de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido, condi\u00e7\u00e3o fatal para a maioria dos peixes estritamente aqu\u00e1ticos.
