Ela documentou com precis\u00e3o a metamorfose dos insetos, provando que lagartas n\u00e3o surgiam por gera\u00e7\u00e3o espont\u00e2nea. Suas ilustra\u00e7\u00f5es, de rara beleza e rigor t\u00e9cnico, influenciaram profundamente a <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/entomologia\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">entomologia<\/span><\/a>. Embora contempor\u00e2neo de figuras como <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/leeuwenhoek\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Leeuwenhoek<\/span><\/a>, Swammerdam introduziu m\u00e9todos anat\u00f4micos que anteciparam a histologia moderna (Gest, 2004). Ainda assim, sua import\u00e2ncia raramente aparece nos manuais de biologia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-radius:100px\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\u201cNa ci\u00eancia, o cr\u00e9dito vai para quem convence o mundo, n\u00e3o para quem teve a ideia primeiro.\u201d<\/strong><br>\u2014 <em>Francis Darwin<\/em>, filho de Charles Darwin<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cm-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-ec4bb6a6fb3c38a8d5290acfb64196e5\">Al\u00e9m deles, <strong>Georges Cuvier<\/strong> \u00e9 frequentemente lembrado por fundar a <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/anatomia\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anatomia<\/span><\/a> comparada, mas foi seu colega <strong>\u00c9tienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire<\/strong> que ousou propor que todos os animais compartilhavam um plano estrutural comum \u2014 uma ideia precursora da evolu\u00e7\u00e3o (Appel, 1987). Embora criticado por Cuvier, Geoffroy lan\u00e7ou sementes intelectuais que <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/tudo-sobre-darwin\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Darwin<\/span><\/a> mais tarde faria florescer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><span><strong style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: &quot;courier new&quot;, courier, monospace; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold;\">Os esquecidos na sombra de Darwin e Mendel<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cm-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-6f2bc6b991f77a8c60ba20587c465be4\">Quando se fala em evolu\u00e7\u00e3o, o nome de Charles Darwin surge de imediato. Entretanto, <strong>Alfred Russel Wallace (1823\u20131913)<\/strong> chegou \u00e0s mesmas conclus\u00f5es, de forma independente, ap\u00f3s suas longas expedi\u00e7\u00f5es pela Amaz\u00f4nia e o Arquip\u00e9lago Malaio. Wallace reconheceu a sele\u00e7\u00e3o natural como for\u00e7a central da transforma\u00e7\u00e3o das esp\u00e9cies e delineou o conceito de biogeografia moderna (Quammen, 2018).
