A partir delas, surgiria um novo e promissor campo da biologia: a gen\u00e9tica. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">No entanto, embora geniais, seus experimentos n\u00e3o foram compreendidos por seus contempor\u00e2neos. Por isso, ca\u00edram no esquecimento e precisaram ser redescobertos d\u00e9cadas depois. Hoje, contudo, seu legado \u00e9 universalmente reconhecido. Na sua inf\u00e2ncia revelou-se muito inteligente; em casa costumava observar e estudar as plantas. Sendo um brilhante estudante a sua fam\u00edlia encorajou-o a seguir estudos superiores, e, aos 21 anos, a entrar num mosteiro da Ordem de Santo Agostinho em 1843 (atual mosteiro de Brno, hoje na Rep\u00fablica Checa) pois n\u00e3o tinham dinheiro para suportar o custo dos estudos. Obedecendo ao costume ao tornar-se monge, optou um outro nome: &#8220;Gregor&#8221;. Ent\u00e3o Mendel tinha a seu cargo a supervis\u00e3o dos jardins do mosteiro.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Estudou ainda, durante dois anos, no Instituto de Filosofia de Olm\u00fctz (hoje Olomouc, Rep\u00fablica Checa) e na Universidade de Viena (1851-1853).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Legado: <span style=\"color: #999999;\">Mendel<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mas Mendel n\u00e3o s\u00f3 se interessou nas plantas, ele tamb\u00e9m era meteorologista e estudou as teorias da evolu\u00e7\u00e3o.
