Stang<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">O grupo coordenado pela bot\u00e2nica Helenice Mercier, da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), recentemente descobriu que essas brom\u00e9lias t\u00eam duas estrat\u00e9gias para captar a ureia e desvendou mecanismos fisiol\u00f3gicos \u00fanicos.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/dicionario-de-plantas\/\">Dicion\u00e1rio de Plantas Gratuito<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/o-universo-das-plantas\/\">O universo das plantas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Em busca de esmiu\u00e7ar a descoberta de Helenice de que as brom\u00e9lias de tanque utilizam ureia, Cassia Takahashi picou muitas folhas de vr\u00edseas em busca de detalhar como elas absorvem nitrog\u00eanio, elemento qu\u00edmico essencial para construir as prote\u00ednas, fundamentais para crescer e se reproduzir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Observou em detalhes, ao <a href=\"https:\/\/biologo.com.br\/bio\/microscopio\/\">microsc\u00f3pio<\/a>, que a base de cada folha tem uma maior densidade de pequenos pelos que funcionam como ra\u00edzes em miniatura, os tricomas. Mas Cassia estava interessada na fisiologia, no que acontece dentro da planta que lhe permite absorver esse nitrog\u00eanio org\u00e2nico. Era preciso localizar e quantificar as enzimas respons\u00e1veis pelo processamento da ureia e seus subprodutos. Quando essa subst\u00e2ncia encontrada na urina dos animais entra na planta, a enzima urease a quebra em am\u00f4nio e g\u00e1s carb\u00f4nico (CO2). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Em seguida entram em a\u00e7\u00e3o outras enzimas, sobretudo a glutamina sintetase (GS), que tem grande afinidade por am\u00f4nio e o integra no amino\u00e1cido glutamina. No in\u00edcio a jovem bot\u00e2nica se concentrou na base das folhas, que fica submersa na \u00e1gua onde est\u00e3o os nutrientes, e jogava fora todo o resto. Parecia um desperd\u00edcio. \u201cResolvi ver se a folha era toda igual para saber se seria poss\u00edvel us\u00e1-la por inteiro, e descobri que estava procurando no lugar errado\u201d, conta. Uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o que faz sentido: o nitrog\u00eanio \u00e9 assimilado onde acontece a fotoss\u00edntese e h\u00e1 energia de sobra para alimentar esse processo e se fazem prote\u00ednas. O resultado sugere tamb\u00e9m que o am\u00f4nio \u00e9 transportado da base para a ponta das folhas, outra surpresa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> \u201cO am\u00f4nio \u00e9 uma subst\u00e2ncia muito t\u00f3xica que as plantas costumam assimilar\u00a0 em mol\u00e9culas org\u00e2nicas assim que o absorvem\u201d, explica Helenice. Em grande concentra\u00e7\u00e3o, o am\u00f4nio pode parar a cadeia respirat\u00f3ria das plantas, um problema s\u00e9rio nas folhas, respons\u00e1veis justamente pela fotoss\u00edntese e respira\u00e7\u00e3o.
